American Woods cedar products are treated with Superdeck stain, which is an oil based, semi-transparent substance. To maintain its current finish, you will need to reapply an oil based stain one to three times per year, depending on the amount of rain, sun, or humidity your furniture is exposed to. It is not recommended to ever use a sealer or water based product, this will cause the wood to become dry and brittle. When the cedar starts to fade, a fresh coat of stain will keep it looking like new. If you choose not to maintain your furniture it will gray naturally. Your furniture can safely be washed with warm, soapy water or a deck detergent.
Cedar is a wonderful outdoor wood, and when properly cared for, will last for many years. It is generally golden brown in color, but it's intensity varies?just part of the natural beauty of this wood. Cedar is resistant to rotting, and the hardware that used is specially coated to resist rust.
